Mitogen’s Anti‐Beta-2-Glycoprotein 1 (β2GP1) – Domain 1 assay is an autoimmune diagnostic test that is useful in the diagnosis of anti-phospholipid syndrome. Antibodies to Domain 1 are reported to be more specific than antibodies to the entire β2Glycoprotein1 protein, which is used in some assays.
β2GP1 has a number of essential functions including the regulation of haemostasis (regulating blood vessel injury and bleeding), homeostasis (general body regulation), and immunity / complement. Consequently, autoantibodies against β2GP1 often leads to arterial or venous blood clots which is a key feature of anti-phospholipid syndrome. There are also associations with migraine headaches and issues with eye sight.
