CLINICAL ASSOCIATIONS

Mitogen’s Atypical ANCA assay is an autoimmune diagnostic test that detects autoantibodies to Lamp2 and Elastase. LAMP2 (Lysosome-associated membrane protein 2 or CD107b) is a lysosome-associated membrane glycoproteins. Its function is believed to be involved in directing lysosomes such as protecting lysosomes from its own internal enzymes, acting as a receptor into the lysosome, adhesion, signal transduction and maintaining pH and catabolism. Antibodies to LAMP-2 are reported in vasculitis and ANCA-related glomeruloenphritis.

Elastase is an enzyme that breaks down elastin (an elastic fibre in connective tissue). From neutrophils, elastase breaks down the outer membrane protein A of gram-negative bacteria. Antibodies to elastase are associated with cocaine-related necrotizing vasculopathy and other ANCA-related vascuopathies.
