CLINICAL ASSOCIATIONS

Mitogen’s Anti-SMN 45 assay is an autoimmune diagnostic test that detects autoantibodies to a protein named “Survival of Motor Neuron” (SMN 45). Antibodies to SMN and related components called ‘gemins’ have been reported in patients with a SLE/autoimmune myositis overlap syndrome and in necrotizing myositis. SMN (Survival of motor neuron 1 or component of gems 1 or GEMIN1) is a protein found in the cytoplasm and in the nuclear gems. SMN is involved in in transcriptional regulation, telomerase regeneration and cellular trafficking.
