CLINICAL ASSOCIATIONS

With uromodulin antibodies being detected in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2, Mitogen offers this assay to determine the levels of uromodulin. Patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 have significantly lower sUmod concentrations than non-diabetics.

Uromodulin is a kidney-specific glycoprotein whose function is speculated to be a regulator of ion transport and protection against urinary tract infection-causing bacteria as well as kidney stones. Though uromodulin is the most abundant protein in urine, it is also present in blood.
